Any normal human will go nuts. (Maybe not them or me, but using this kind of paces will not be suitable for the public)

If we have a lot of people then, it'll have to take place over a period of 2 days or more, with grace in-between for players so that we can let them rest. After all, this is for fun and not to stress people out.

yeah i guess so, but most ppl from the public only look at it like some game so they may not take it so seriously in their life like us, so they may not feel very happy to spend a few days for this thingy =( but also can't do the alternative i guess, cuz if u spam many opponents in one day i think some ppl will faint from fatigue xD

If u realise, comps like the WCG and such are actually big events with lots of competitors and probably high budgets. This taiko comp. is going to be the 1st of its kind, and most probably on a small scale, since I don't think arcadia is gonna shell out tens of thousands just for this comp. assuming that the number of participants isn't too big, it'd be much better to try to conclude everything within one day than make competitors make repeated trips down to iluma just for the comp. not everyone is going to find the time taken to travel and etc. worth the effort to join the comp.

High budget? Nah

Their budget are damn low. Since I've worked with them before, I know.

Say, they paying us to do the judging, comp fixing, comp testing and even WIRING AND NETWORKING. Because we know these things as well, labour cost is reduced. They wished they can hire those professional, but their budget are limited, really limited. And what's more, it is the sponsors that are actually contributing bits and bits.

Small scale, for a first try, would be good if you have like around 20 people for a start.

I think the theme should be "having fun with Taiko".

I'll probably join if there're not enough numbers. then first round get kicked out.

So I shall not join for the sake of "people who see me will run".

I'll be looking around and cheering. I'll bring my miko power for those who want, as well as the dragon boat one.

Err, can I take part in the Kantan one? lol.

Definitely will be more than 20 ppl. We should get at least 30-40 la, cuz dojo-ers in SG around 20-30, then plus public.

Lol it's probably general, so there's no "kantan one", but u can play kantan mode in the competition if u want (quite pointless though -_-"") as in, competitors probably can choose any mode they want to play within the rules of competition, just that lower difficulty = lower star = lower weightage

BUT if u choose kantan and get FC liangs, then your personal score section will have 100% =D but if can FC harder songs than should go for those instead (kantan very sianz)

Like I have emphasized, I am not particularly interested in winning. I just want to relax my way through, use one hand, dance, sing, jump, stunt or whatever and whack.

Who cares about 100%? It's the fun and the humor that matters.

Kantan very fun. Training ground for jumping, dancing, and doing stupid stuffs.

I already say I want to see people have fun and laughing, not sweating and getting hand cramp and blisters all over.

A quote from me:

"Be one with Taiko, be one with the game, be one without the scores. Only then you have obtained the true Taiko spirit"

Like I always say: It is near impossible to MASTER the game using the way of "peace".

Dum dum dum, my gaming perfectionist is coming back so let's stop this here.

Lol i wasn't talking about getting/aiming for high scores and stuff, i meant, when you're in the competition, if scores are included in the criteria, then... yeah. I mean, I was just commenting while relating to the judging criteria in my suggestions earlier, not talking about aiming for scores.

I know you must "Be one with Taiko, etc.", and although it is important to remember to enjoy the game and all, you can still get scores while having fun. I don't mean like, spamming, training and aiming for scores (that kind is a muggish-training-attitude), as in like, just play because you enjoy it, but if you happen to get good scores in this process, then good for you (and probably may raise a bit of your morale =p)

Lol if got doubles, then yuu + gepi = clear winners XD

er. i totally disagree with that super-chim calculation of score method or what by zen. too complicated leh. why would arcadia want to go to that trouble just to calculate scores. ohya i was wondering. what if all the stronger players gather in one group. then it doesn't matter about single or double elimination, its still unfair i guess. x.x

anyway good luck chinkai all the best. hope to hear good news yea!

Lol sorry, cuz I dunno how else we calculate who's better with ONLY wins & losses. Hmmm... how about....

Ok we can ignore all the cheem cheem score crap, but to decide who wins each GAME, we still implement the 1 point for a "song score win" and 2 points for "total score win", then see who wins over 6. Then for WHO we compete against in our next game, we compete with people who have same no. of wins and losses as us, followed bynearest score to us. As in:

Round 1, Match 1: Completely random against another opponent
Round 1, Match 2: If you won, you play against another person who won, and if you got 3m and the next highest person with a win got 2.9m, you play against that guy. If you lost, the converse applies, which means that if you lost with 2.5m, and the next highest is 2m, you play against that guy.
Round 1, Match 3: Same thing applies. 2 wins vs 2 wins, 1 win 1 loss vs 1 win 1 loss, and so on.

If there are cases of only one pair with similar stats, like let's say a pair ties in the first round, and they are the only people with 1 draw each, they don't battle each other again. The higher of the two goes against a person with a win and lower goes against a person with a loss. This is to prevent ppl from continuous going against the same opponent, then end up 3 draws or smth XD In any case, ppl shouldn't go up against an opponent more than once IN A ROW.

Then the top 50 or 60% or smth will go through to second round, depends on how many ppl in total, and we apply the same format lor. (From now on, i'll refer to this as Format C)

Final round can be tournament tree then =p just win or loss, or if preferred, can use Format C again

and hope to hear news from ck soon =D

Some updates for the benefit of everybody:

1. I have managed to get in touch with the Arcadia marketing team. Discussions are in progress, but I hope to have a category for casual gamers and one for competitive gamers. More on this next time.

2. With help from Yuu, Debbie and Grayson, I have obtained raw data to work on in coming up with a set of judging criteria. To preempt you of what to come, this set of criteria will be based heavily on the accuracy of the player, but song score will not be neglected.

3. Since the 7th floor arcade extension won't be opened until mid-June, there is a very small possibility that the competition might be pushed to December, so as not to disrupt examination preparations. I am still looking into this at the moment.

nooo... mid june open >_< that's still quite a long wait (i thought it was end of may)

and omg, competition in dec, even longer wait XD (but looking forward more to taiko 12 than competition)

lol btw ck, when u say accuracy, do u mean like, the amount of liangs, or like, amount of hits/total notes?

Using an empirical score system, a 良 will score x points and a 可 will score y points, such that x > y > 0. In other words, obviously a player who can hit 99% of the notes has a higher chance of beating a player who only hit 98%, but at the same time the latter may stand a chance to defeat the former because of precision (perhaps because he missed due to a fluke, for instance).

I hope this answers your question.

ok thxs, so it's like the one i suggested in one of the formats, based on a liang-ke-bu ke scoring system lol =p that's pretty cool and probably quite decent in scoring ppl Smile

An update on what's been going on.

I am still awaiting a reply from the Arcadia marketing team, but I don't expect it anytime soon because I think they have their hands full with the 7th floor opening soon.

As such, I might look into organizing this competition independent of Arcadia. This would mean that we have to do everything ourselves - like publicity, prizes and so on. This could also mean that the competition might be reduced in scale drastically.

Right now I have some ideas regarding who to approach for sponsorship of prizes, but it doesn't hurt if I receive more input regarding this. For example, I thought of approaching Comics Connection and Play-Asia.com. Any suggestions would be highly welcome.

2cents:
Best if the competition is around the grand opening period. If scale will be reduced drastically, then i doubt big companies like Comics Connection and Play-Asia will sponsor us. Worse comes to worst, there might be a possibility that no companies will sponsor such a small scale competition for no benefits to them.

yeah i think if it's around the grand opening period then probably more ppl will participate.

About prizes, can't arcadia just give out stuff like, 1st prize, $100 worth of tokens (can put in vouchers to claim, cuz if they give a bag of it, it's gonna weigh a ton XD) and so on. This way, it won't really cost them money directly (unless the person spams the tokens on UFO machines and stuff). As in, can't arcadia give the prizes themselves? Since they probably have something to gain from it (publicity and all), and they ARE part of the organizers and stuff.
